There are often three main reasons parents choose a homeschooling path for their children: classical education, faith, and civic foundations. These are also vital tenants to the community as a whole and need to be instituted into the broader educational ecosystem which benefits all children regardless of their schooling choice.
The responsibility of our educational system goes beyond the ballot box. We have a duty to our broader community to ensure our educational system sticks to the core tenants of a self-governing society which includes classical education, faith, and civic foundations.
The funding of public schools often supports programs that can directly enrich homeschooled students through the dual enrollment program. This offers students an opportunity to be involved in FFA programs, theater, athletics, clubs, music, and certain science curriculums depending on the scale in the size of participants as well as the financial resources allotted to the school. Both homeschooled students and public school students benefit greatly from working together and the strengths that come from each student group.
The success of a community is intertwined with the overall health of the education system. Even though homeschooling families have chosen an alternative educational path, they are still integral members of the wider community and share in the benefits of a thriving school system.
Additionally, a well-supported school system enhances the overall reputation and desirability of the community, which can indirectly benefit homeschooling families. A strong school system often correlates with an attractive and more vibrant community atmosphere. By investing in education through the levy, homeschooling parents contribute to creating a positive environment that fosters growth.
Lastly, when homeschooling parents lean in beyond the ballot box, they can become a part of directly changing the educational system. From faith-based educational blocks to starting civics clubs the more active the homeschooling community is in the education system the better the community as a whole.
